Meat pie is a popular savory pastry snack filled with a rich mixture of minced meat, potatoes, and vegetables, all enclosed in a flaky, slightly sweet crust. It’s a beloved grab-and-go food across Nigeria and is commonly served at parties, bakeries, school canteens, and roadside stalls.

- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt and mix well. Then cut the cold butter and add to the bowl,
- mix well using your fingertips until the mixture is crumbly.
- Gradually add cold water and knead into a dough. Wrap in cling film and let chill in the fridge for an hour.
- In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add minced meat and cook till brown season with thyme, curry
- powder, seasoning cube and salt and mix well.
- Add onions, garlic, scotch bonnet, carrot and potato, pour in ¼ cup of water and simmer till potato and
- carrot are tender.
- In a small bowl mix, flour and water, stir until smooth and pour into the beef mixture. Simmer until the
- mixture thickens, set aside and allow to cool.
- 3. Generously flour the work surface, portion the dough equally. Roll out the dough and cut into circles.
- Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center.
- Fold top half over to form a semicircle, then press down around the edges gently with a fork to seal.
- Transfer to a baking sheet, crack an egg in a small bowl and whisk well. Brush the surface of the pies
- with egg wash and bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 20 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
